Things to do in Hamilton with friends

Hamilton · Friends · Nightlife · Outdoors · Events

Hamilton has more than 100 waterfalls, a downtown arena that just had a $300-million rebuild, a monthly street party, and neighbourhoods built for long dinners that turn into late nights.

Whether your group wants to hike, cheer or crawl, here's how to fill a day and night.

  1. Art Crawl on James Street North

    Hamilton

On the second Friday of every month, James Street North turns into a block party of galleries, studios, street performers, vendors and patios.

From May to October, the street between York Boulevard and Murray Street closes to cars from early evening.

It's free; bring a group and wander.

  2. Webster's Falls, Tew's Falls and Dundas Peak

    Hamilton

Hamilton calls itself the City of Waterfalls for a reason.

Webster's Falls is a 22-metre curtain of water; nearby Tew's Falls is the tallest in the city, and the trail from it climbs to Dundas Peak, one of the best views in Southern Ontario.

In busy seasons, entry and parking need an online reservation through the Hamilton Conservation Authority, so book before you go.

  3. Albion Falls and the east-end falls

    Hamilton

On the east side of the city, Albion Falls is an easier stop to add to a waterfall day. Stay on marked trails and viewing areas; the gorges are steep.

    Good for: friendsoutdoors

  4. A concert or game at TD Coliseum

    Hamilton

The former Copps Coliseum reopened in November 2025 after a $300-million rebuild as TD Coliseum, an 18,000-seat, music-first venue in downtown Hamilton with major tours, sports and The Iron Cow, a full-service restaurant by Matty Matheson.

Check the calendar and make a night of it downtown.

    101 York Blvd, Hamilton

    Good for: friendsnightlifeevents

  5. A Tiger-Cats game at Tim Hortons Field

    Hamilton

Nothing says Hamilton like a Ticats game. Tailgate, wear yellow and black, and stop at the Canadian Football Hall of Fame inside the stadium.

    Good for: friendsevents

  6. Locke Street

    Hamilton

A walkable strip of cafés, restaurants, bakeries and independent shops in the west end. Brunch here, then walk it off.

    Good for: friendscouplesfood

  7. Hess Village

    Hamilton

Hamilton's classic night-out district: a few blocks of restaurants, bars and patios downtown that fill up on weekends.

    Good for: friendsnightlife (19+)

  8. Bayfront Park and the waterfront trail

    Hamilton

Walk, run or bike the trail along Hamilton Harbour, then grab something to eat by the water. An easy, free way to spend a summer evening.

    Good for: friendsoutdoorsfree

  9. Volta Sports & Social Club, opening soon

    Grimsby

About 25 minutes from Hamilton down the QEW in Grimsby: six padel courts, six pickleball courts, indoor golf simulators, a 24/7 gym, pilates, yoga and spin, sauna, jacuzzi and cold plunge, and a café and lounge.

Book a court, play a game, stay for the afternoon. The game ends. The club doesn't.
